Capco
Excellence in Financial Consulting
Age: 31
Steve stands out in his business vision and ability to spot market trends ahead of other consultancies and others at Capco. He's started two business streams from scratch.
One business is helping financial institutions with the complex London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR) transition. To make this happen, he treated numerous Capco Partners like a group of investors, sold the business idea to them, and secured their buy-in. Then he joined forces with the Partners to go to market and sold the solution to five clients in seven countries. The result: generated $10 million in revenue.
While he waited for the LIBOR sales to close, Steve looked for the next big market opportunity and started a second business stream — the Consolidated Audit Trail (CAT) offering. He secured client meetings to build the CAT sales pipeline and generated a pipeline of singles, doubles and triples opportunities to close. The result: Generated $3 million in revenue.
Steve's path toward becoming a consultant began before he graduated college, "As I was finishing up my undergraduate degree, I started looking for opportunities to learn more about financial services. I was particularly interested in an analyst or associate program that would allow me to get more exposure to the financial services industry. In my search, I came across Capco's Associate Talent Program, applied, and was accepted. This marked the beginning of my career in financial services consulting."
He says what excites him most about his consulting career is, "The opportunity to be an integral part of strategic and transformative business change, and truly make a difference for my clients is what excites me the most about my career. I've been in the consulting world since 2012, and since then, I've experienced some of the most impactful business and technological shifts to date. With change comes immense opportunity, and it's thrilling to be a part of the movement to find and capitalize on those opportunities. Consulting also gives me the chance to work and collaborate with brilliant talent. Each day, I'm inspired and energized by my colleagues' commitment and passion. Their zest for pursuing new challenges is contagious, and I love that energy!"
"I will always remember what it felt like the first time I delivered remarks and expressed my point of view on how to execute a particular program to a client. While it was intimidating to voice my perspective, it was also one of the most rewarding moments in my early career. That specific client discussion became the impetus behind a new global solution for Capco. It's an exceptional feeling to see your hard work translate into transformative outcomes for your clients."
"Years ago, my mentor gave me the most impactful advice that I still apply to my professional and personal life today: never stop moving forward. All too often, we get caught up in the daily pressures and minutia. We know what it means to have days filled with back-to-back meetings and dauntless deliverables. We've all experienced working with difficult people who challenge us. I've learned that the best way to get past something is to work through it. I take each day as it comes and embrace adversity, because, in the end, it makes us better for next time. And, there will always be a next time. The only thing that we can control in those situations is our reaction."
What's been the biggest factor in your success so far?
"Without a doubt, mentorship has been the most important contributing factor to my career success at Capco. I know how fortunate I am to have had access to and support from different folks across Capco. I have found that having multiple perspectives on any matter is invaluable and proves to be a learning opportunity, regardless of how much experience I accrue. Understanding the value behind having trustworthy teammates in your corner, I always try to pay it forward and help my junior colleagues any way I can."
