"The Consulting Women Leaders in Technology award means so many things…Possibility, Reality, Connection," says Tami Frankenfield. "My hope is that we, as women, all see ourselves in one another. Throughout my career, I have been inspired by so many stories and supported by women who "get me." Shining a spotlight on women in consulting gives us all a chance to connect through our experiences and aspirations."
For Frankenfield, her greatest achievement was taking the bold move, late in her career — not once, but twice — to go back to school. "There were sacrifices, both personally and professionally. And yes, the traditional academic experience did not always fit well with a consultant's lifestyle. But, I feel fortunate to have found both an academic forum and professional experiences that keep me thinking in a space that really gives me a charge."
She notes the best advice she's ever received was: "Tami, this is what I want for you…to be comfortable being uncomfortable."
Q&A: What unique challenges have you experienced being a female consultant in the technology field?
"Sometimes I feel like there are actually advantages to being a woman, particularly in technology and consulting. I mean really, when I walk into a room, I'm easy to spot and even easier to remember (that really does come in handy!). I do see the gap closing on some of the typical challenges I've faced: learning to be a self-advocate, closing the compensation gap, celebrating diverse leadership qualities, and allyship among women."
