When asked what it means to be honored as a Woman Leader in Technology, Susie Cummings noted, "It's exciting to be recognized for something that I have a lot of passion for and have made a commitment to in my career. Engagement with our clients and making sure we're consistently delivering a great experience is critical to our success."
She counts her current position as the leader of BDO USA IT Services group and working with a great team of resources, committed to their clients and each other, among her greatest achievements. Adding that BDO provides tremendous opportunities for growth and it's exciting to work for an innovative and forward-looking company.
In terms of gleaning knowledge from peers and mentors, she cites this one as influential–Lean in and don't be afraid of change – which has served her well in her career. With each opportunity, she focused on addressing her discomfort head-on and embraced the change before her with a positive attitude. Susie also tried to stay true to herself, and use her sense of humor to get through tough situations knowing that confidence comes from experience and demonstrated success.
Q&A: What unique challenges have you experienced being a female consultant in the technology field?
"When I started at BDO 18+ years ago in our IT solutions group, I was one of five women in the company. At the time, technology tended to be more male-dominated, but since then, we've grown aggressively and I'm excited that there are so many more women excelling at all levels within the organization. Now I'm surrounded by amazing women who actively promote mentorship and have the platform to advance their careers and other women within the firm."
