Sandra Yeo has been immersed in the world of technology for 30 years, developing cutting-edge programs for some of the biggest clients in Infosys Consulting and previously, for IBM and PwC. "I would say one of the greatest highlights so far has been working on ground-breaking automation projects and complex M&A transitions for Infosys Consulting's leading-edge pharmaceutical clients. Seeing in real-time, the transformation of manual tasks that took days to seconds, enabling a remarkable reduction in costs and improvements in efficiency for clients which in turn benefits the end-customers has been a very rewarding experience."
Her experience has not been without challenges and hurdles. "Being a woman in this industry means you are usually the lone female voice at the decision-making table or at power lunches and team dinners. Thus, battling the feeling of isolation can be challenging at times. But I have been fortunate to work for firms with supportive mentors and strong female leaders who have been inspiring role models, and have enabled me to progress in my career."
On her inclusion in the ranks of the 2021 Consulting's Leading Women in Technology, she notes, "This has been one of the biggest unexpected moments of my career. As we know, there is a lot to be desired when it comes to gender parity in the tech industry with only 5% women on average in senior leadership positions, but women are usually the hidden figures behind the success of many strategic projects. To receive an acknowledgment in this space alongside such worthy female peers who are all doing such innovative work feels truly wonderful."
Q&A: What would you say is the best advice (consulting or otherwise) you've ever received?
"There are no mistakes, only opportunities. This is a great motto I follow for my professional and personal growth."
