Excellence in Client Services

Courtney Mungovan says the best advice she would give to anyone looking to succeed in consulting is to be solutions-oriented and practice active listening. "For many years, I served as one of Huron's employee engagement leaders. It's been great working with a team of individuals who come to the table with fresh ideas and solutions. I frequently repeat a quote from my mother, well actually it came from Mother Goose, in my head.  It goes, 'For every problem under the sun, there may be a solution or maybe none.  If there is, then go and find it.  If there isn't then never mind it.'  So, when faced with a challenge, be a part of the solution, not the problem."

"Winning the Women Leaders in Technology award is incredibly meaningful to me. During my 25-year career in healthcare information systems and technology, I have been inspired, challenged, and supported by strong women both at home and in the workplace." She goes on to say, "I've been very intentional in selecting mentors that are inspirational, motivational, and intellectually curious.  To me, this award is as much about them as it is for me. I'm truly humbled by this recognition especially given there are so many women making an impact in technology today. I hope that this recognition encourages women to serve as leaders in technology and shoot for the stars."

As far as her greatest achievement goes, she knew she wanted a career where she could help people– and going into clinical information systems satiated this desire. "My interest in this area grew after getting my hands on a copy of the U.S. Institute of Medicine's 'To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System', a report published to increase awareness of medical errors and the most common ways they are made. As a clinical systems analyst and project manager, I was paired with talented and caring clinical staff to see how we could leverage technology to decrease medical errors, increase patient safety and ultimately save lives. I've loved teaming up with others to implement things like Computerized Physician Order Entry, IV Smart Pump Technology, and telehealth. The rise of digital consumerism has been so empowering and inspiring. I love collaborating with our Huron team and our clients to develop technology roadmaps of the future putting consumerism at the forefront, from both patient and provider perspectives. It has been a rewarding experience serving as a leader on Huron's healthcare technology services team and being paired with talented clinicians, technology, and performance improvement leaders helping our clients transform their business and own their future."

Q&A: What unique challenges have you experienced being a female consultant in the technology field?

"When I started my technology career in the mid-'90s, the industry was male-dominated and there were mainly men in technology leadership positions. Even today, there continues to be employment gaps, workplace gaps, and retention gaps. I feel very fortunate to work for a company that values diversity and equality.  Huron challenges all employees to celebrate their differences and live our value of inclusion.  I think it's helped us to perform better, hire some of the best talent in the industry regardless of gender, sexual identification, ethnicity, and religion, and therefore have one of the strongest teams in the market."
