Excellence in Leadership

When asked about what she would consider the best advice (consulting or otherwise) she has ever received, Cameron Forbes Over responds, "Do not shy away from challenges—embrace them!" She follows, "I had a client many years ago who instilled in me the great importance of proactively considering potential solutions once a problem is identified. Problems are an inevitable part of life, work, and projects. Your ability to think critically about the problem set, and then consider previous lessons learned, perform research, and ask thoughtful questions will go a long way in helping to more quickly find solutions. Even better, if you can approach your leadership with the problem AND ideas for how they can be solved, then you are demonstrating ownership of the situation and will likely be pulled in to help with the eventual solution—all of which creates a valuable learning opportunity."

She says winning a Women Leaders in Technology award means gaining recognition for the capabilities and team she has built at CrossCountry. "It has been a true honor to have had this career in consulting. Each and every day, I seek to build and uphold a team culture of collaboration, innovation, and creativity, and I think that is why we have been so successful in helping our clients to achieve their mission. I am grateful that our clients continue to trust us with their information security and privacy risks, and it's always so exhilarating to find ways to further their organization. This award is recognition that our team is focused on the right things and that our own vision is being achieved and appreciated."

She credits success to a stellar group of coworkers. "I am proud of the amazing team that I have surrounding me, the capabilities that we've developed, and the trust that the firm has placed in me to continue to build and expand our offerings to our clients; having this opportunity to build the Cyber and Privacy practice from the ground up for CrossCountry has been a great professional achievement. I look back on my career since I started in information security in the late '90s and think about all of the amazing professionals I have had the honor to learn from, grow with, and eventually lead teams for within the Department of Defense community, and now the commercial consulting space. Ultimately, I feel that the team and clients that we have are the culmination of all those years of experience and growth."

Q&A: What unique challenges have you experienced being a female consultant in the technology field?

"Growing up in an industry dominated by men can be intimidating. I remember feeling like I was always the only female, not to mention the youngest, and was often met with surprise by any number of military or federal executives that I encountered during the first 10 years of my career. While I think those situations have their challenges, they also force you to find your voice in the room, prepare your thoughts and ideas well ahead of time, and not be afraid of being different. Those skills have served me well throughout my career, and I share my experiences with the many talented women that surround me today. I am proud that currently, our team at CrossCountry has many strong female security and privacy experts, in addition to our talented male counterparts."
