Bhavna Sondhi

Coalfire

Excellence in Client Services

When asked what being selected for this award means to her, Bhavna Sondhi answered, "I would like to thank Consulting magazine, I am truly humbled and honored to be recognized. This award reinforces my decision to continue investing in my career as well as carve out time for my family and maintain that tenuous balance. It fills me with a sense of relief that my dedication to providing cybersecurity services for clients has been acknowledged. And lastly, it leaves me with a sense of immense gratitude for all of the guidance and support I have received from my team at Coalfire, Coalfire leadership,  husband, and also my kids who encourage me."

Becoming the most educated person in her family was a significant achievement given the limited prospects afforded a girl from a small village in India. "My greatest achievement was to break the stereotype and acquire such an education. At this point in my career, I have more certifications and qualifications than would fit comfortably on a business card.  Along the way, a lot of people have nudged me forward and guided me. I want to continue playing that part for others and keep paying this forward.

Sondhi quotes a line from her favorite anime as good advice she has received–Never give up and never compromise on your ideals. "There have been several occasions where I faced adverse situations and I have reached out to others to seek guidance and support.  When you feel you are drowning, surround yourself with people whom you can trust and seek help and support to get back on your feet. A close second recommendation I would give is "It's ok to make mistakes, that's how we learn and grow."

Q&A: What unique challenges have you experienced being a female consultant in the technology field?\

"I have been in situations where I was the only female and only person of color in the room, but I took the opportunity to lead the conversations based on my technical qualifications and ability. There have also been several occasions where I have faced gender stereotyping and was undermined. It took time and patience to get my point across, but I was ultimately able to navigate through these challenges and change their perception by showing confidence and using my consulting skills. As most women do, we have the tendency to doubt ourselves and hold back in the workplace. I can proudly say that Coalfire has been supportive in my career and I have seen the growth of many female consultants to become inspiring leaders."
