Excellence in Strategy Consulting

Age: 33

In university, Andrew Nolan thought a lot about a potential career path but wasn't sure, exactly, what he wanted to do after graduation. However, he did think that consulting seemed like a very appealing option from both a training and variety of work perspective. Shortly after graduating, Nolan began his consulting career with KPMG in Australia. "I have not looked back."

Today, he is a Partner with KPMG and is being recognized as one of the Rising Stars of the Profession for his Excellence in Strategy Consulting.

Ask him the achievement he is most proud of thus far in his career and he says "being admitted into the KPMG partnership was among my proudest accomplishments thus far. It was a significant milestone in my career of which I am extremely proud," he says. Nolan was admitted into the KPMG Advisory Parntership with the Class of 2020.

KPMG Advisory is all about improving business performance, turning risk and compliance into opportunities, developing strategies and enhancing value are at the core of what we do for leading organizations.

What's been the biggest factor to his success so far?  "Without a doubt, professional relationships," Nolan says. "Leadership, clients, colleagues, mentors—I have worked with and worked for some incredibly intelligent, talented and inspirational people who have made my career path possible."

And he says the constant evolution of consulting is what excites him most about his career.

"In my career, the industry has shifted from experiential advice towards data driven insight and this trend will continue as data and technology help guide practical business strategies," Nolan says.

As far as being recognized as one of the Rising Stars of the Profession, Nolan says that "it's a tremendous honor and recognizes the amazing opportunity I have been given at the Strategy and Deal Advisory practice of KPMG."

KPMG professionals blend risk and business know-how with technical innovation to help organizations transform risk and compliance efforts into a competitive advantage. Looking at an organization's corporate strategy through a risk lens, KPMG helps improve a firm's risk intelligence and decision making, protect financial and reputational assets, anticipate change and enhance business value.

Q&A: What's the best advice—personal or professional—you've ever received?

Nolan: "Bring the hustle! Consulting is a highly competitive industry with incredibly high client expectations. Show up every day and give it your all."
