Brett Gizelt

Myrtle Consulting Group

Excellence in Operations Management

Age: 34

Brett Gizelt began his career in a role that wasn't fulfilling. He was growing tired of going to work and doing the same thing over and over every day. So he responded to a job posting online that described exactly what he was looking for: Work in and learn about new industries in different aspects be it production, maintenance, management systems, logistics and strategy, all while traveling to each site 100 percent of the time. "That was nearly eight years ago and the start to my journey as a consultant."

Today, Gizelt is Manager of Transformation at Myrtle Consulting Group, and he's also a Rising Star of the Profession.

"I am most proud of the last project I led because it was my first time leading an entire project as a manager," Gizelt says. "Not only did the project hit targets on time, the team included three employees new to the company and consulting. It was fulfilling to train and prepare them to complete their targets on the project and set them up for success on future projects."

And some good advice he received along the way couldn't have turned out to have been more true: Learning never stops, take in everything you can, stay humble and be the best person you can.

Gizelt says people have been the biggest contributing factor to his success, thus far. "First, my father has supported me in whatever it is I decide to do. Without him I would not be here," he says. "Furthermore, I have had the opportunity to work with great people and leaders in consulting. One person in particular, Lotfi Maroizy has thought me to ask the 6th, 7th, and 8th question to fully understand every aspect of any of project deliverable. This allows me to stay one step ahead and provide detailed pragmatic information to leadership and the client. This ensures that I am able to overachieve on any deliverable assigned to me and/or my team."

As far as being recognized as one of the Rising Stars of the Profession, Gizelt says winning the award is a great honor. "First, it means that my work is being recognized and appreciated by Myrtle's leadership and my peers," Gizelt says. "Furthermore, it indicates progress toward being the best consultant I can and providing high quality work to my clients while representing the firm at the highest level."

Q&A: What excites you most about your consulting career?

Gizelt: "The personal growth and endless learning that consulting provides are the things that excite me the most about the career."
