FTI Consulting
Excellence in Execution
When it comes to the consulting profession and what she enjoys about it, two things stand out for Sophie Ross. "The first is the ability to work with amazingly bright individuals, and we have many at FTI Consulting. The second is the dynamic nature of the consulting industry," Ross says. "And every day is different, and you get to solve interesting problems on behalf of clients and evolve our solutions."
Ross is the Global CEO of the Technology segment at FTI Consulting and is based in San Francisco. She also leads the Technology Steering Committee and is a member of the firm's Executive Committee.
"The transformation our practice has undergone to become a truly global and diverse organization has been an accomplishment," she says. "We're at the forefront of data management in the context of compliance and risk, combining analytics and innovation, helping to advise our clients on their most critical legal and regulatory matters."
As part of this, she says FTI has expanded into new areas—from data privacy to blockchain advisory services—where the firm's technical, legal and regulatory expertise can deliver practical solutions for clients.
"The diverse, global and expert team we've built and what we've been able to accomplish on behalf of our clients makes us proud," Ross says. "It isn't hyperbole to say that we work on some of the most high-stakes legal and regulatory matters that can determine our clients' futures."
The work is meaningful and needs problem-solvers and people that can find solutions to new challenges. "I've been fortunate to find seasoned experts with this problem-solving mindset, and younger consultants looking for new opportunities and career growth," Ross says. "As a team, we've been able to wow our clients while helping them mitigate risk."
Ross says a few things have played a big role towards her journey to this point today. First, she's always been intellectually curious about what's coming next, with a focus on where clients, team and business need to be in the next three to five years in order to be successful. Secondly, she's lived in several countries growing up and learned flexibility and adaptability, which is critical for today's business environment. Third, when she took on her current role, she made a conscious choice to stay connected and involved just as before.
As far as being named a Global Leader in Consulting, she says she is grateful and humbled. "Many amazing colleagues, and a supportive family, helped me to get here today," Ross says.
Q&A: What motivates you to excel?
"When you join something, you want to leave it better than when you started. I care about our team, clients and the collaborative relationship we've created. I care about creating a diverse and rewarding work environment with career growth opportunities. I care about strengthening existing relationships and market positions while looking for new opportunities and creating a platform for growth."
