Insight Sourcing Group is the leading boutique consulting firm in North America focused exclusively on strategic sourcing and procurement-related services. The firm works with executives and procurement leaders to accelerate strategic sourcing savings, increase spend visibility, provide ongoing category analytics for savings tracking, and implement procurement best practices. Brent Eiland, President of the firm, sat down with Consulting to discuss the firm's financial performance.
Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm's exceptional growth?
Eiland: First, our focus and discipline around providing an area of great need for businesses. Second, hiring exceptional individuals and being able to retain them. We are consistently ranked as a great place to work through employee feedback-driven awards (we were recently ranked on Consulting magazine's Best Small Firms to Work For list). Third, driving remarkable value for our clients, and maintaining extraordinary relationships with those clients.
Consulting: How is this year shaping up for your firm?
Eiland: 2019 is shaping up to be a record year in terms of exceeding goals and growth across our entire business. It's been a year in which we've added a diverse and talented group of both undergrad hires and experienced hires to our team. It's also been a year where we have implemented new developmental and training programs to continue to grow our team members and prepare them for leadership (regardless of their position / tenure with the firm).
Consulting: How would you describe your firm's outlook for 2020?
Eiland: Our outlook for 2020 is incredibly optimistic. We anticipate growth to continue at the exceptional levels it has over the past three years. We expect great balance between our five different business units, which complement each other in terms of value for our clients (i.e. we offer a fully integrated suite of procurement-related solutions). In terms of where we see the most opportunities: we have a strong Private Equity procurement practice that continues to grow significantly and opportunistically; we have new products and services that we are excited about introducing to the market (a new managed service for category management; version 2.0 of our spend analytics platform, SpendHQ; and some innovative things within our procurement consulting practice); continuing to target both Fortune 100 clients and fast-growing / strategic small and mid-sized companies.
Consulting: What are your firm's biggest challenges in 2020?
Eiland: We anticipate the possibility of a recession or an adjustment in the economy, which will make clients more discretionary with how they spend their consulting dollars. In terms of internal talent, we also expect the market for talent to continue to get tougher / more competitive for the type of top-end recruits that we are looking for.
Consulting: What does being named a Fastest Growing Firm mean to your firm, employees and clients?
Eiland: For our firm and our employees, it's affirmation that we're doing things right and it will help us continue to attract the best and brightest talent. For our clients, it's a tribute to the long-term relationships we have and the confidence our clients have in us to continue to both leverage us and recommend us to other companies.
