Pathways Consulting Group is another newcomer to the Best Small Firms to Work For list. The Freehold, N.J.-based firm is on quite a roll and Jeffrey Giovinazzo, Founder and CEO, says morale is as high as it's ever been since the firm was founded 13 years ago.

"Whether it's one of our sales reps on a call with a new client, or one of our developers assisting an existing client with a ServiceNow implementation, everyone on our team enjoys the process and is invested in it," says Giovinazzo says. "This positivity and care comes across to our clients. Even during critical projects and last-minute deliverables, our team maintains outstanding chemistry and composure. Clients are constantly e-mailing me to compliment our team."

And those clients will now have yet another reason to compliment Pathways as the firm makes its debut on the Best Small Firms to Work For ranking. "Consulting magazine's recognition is sure to boost company morale even further," says Mary Manzo, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer. "It's validation to our employees that they work in a nurturing environment where their efforts really do matter. For our clients, it's confirmation that our team is top notch—to be able to achieve recognition of this kind demonstrates our employees care and like what they do, which is to provide exemplary service."

Giovinazzo says Pathways' top priority over the next 12 months is pretty simple—growth and scalability. Pathways will double in revenue this year, he says, which means more opportunities for both the company and team. "Ensuring we maintain a superlative culture during this time of growth is as important to us as growth itself," he says.

He also says Pathways doesn't want to be like the guy with a winning lotto ticket who becomes an overnight millionaire, only to lose it all because he wasn't prepared for the changes.

On the survey, the firm excelled in the areas of Career Development and Culture. As far as Career Development, Manzo says leaders at Pathways are constantly encouraging employees to take on new responsibilities and grow. "Some companies pigeonhole, but we want our employees to evolve with the company," Manzo says. "We constantly sponsor employees to attend workshops and other training initiatives. It's good for them and it's good for Pathways."

As for Culture, Pathways is simply just a very fun place to work, she says. "Our employees feel comfortable and even at home when they come to work. Pathways is a safe place for them to excel professionally. As a result, we've had extremely low employee turnover."

When you look at the remainder of this year, what excites you?

Giovinazzo: Our clients are evolving and adopting change at lightspeed. As an example, we have clients in telecommunications who expand into healthcare seemingly overnight and suddenly need us to address totally new ServiceNow challenges. On one hand the challenges are becoming more complex and difficult; on the other hand it's exciting to keep pace with these changes because that means more opportunities for Pathways. By staying ahead of the curve and expanding our capabilities, Pathways gives clients a go-to company to entrust with all their evolving ServiceNow needs.
