McKinsey & Company unveiled plans to expand its footprint in the Midwest with the opening of an office in St. Louis, which will be McKinsey's seventh Midwest location. The others are: Cleveland, Denver, Detroit, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh and Chicago, where the company was founded in 1926.

McKinsey last expanded its U.S. presence in 2014, when it opened its Denver office. With St. Louis, the company will now have offices in 132 cities worldwide, employing some 30,000 people globally, says the firm.

"I could not be more pleased to add a St. Louis office as we continue to expand our footprint in the Midwest. The firm already has a strong client base in St. Louis as the city is home to many  institutions and has a diversified economy," said Virginia Simmons, Senior Partner in Chicago and Managing Partner of McKinsey's U.S. Midwest offices. "As a Firm, we have also long been an admirer of talent out of Washington University, and look forward to continuing and expanding our recruiting efforts there and across the city."

St. Louis is home to 10 Fortune 500 companies across a range of sectors and one of the fastest growing tech startup markets in the country. Darryl Piasecki, who hails from St. Louis and returned in 2008, will be Managing Partner of the St. Louis office.  "I'm very proud of what is happening in St. Louis, from the startup scene to the reinvigorated civic approach to economic development," says Piasecki. "Now is a unique time in St. Louis, and McKinsey is excited to be part of it."
