20. Pivot Point Consulting

Revenue Growth: 206%

HQ: Brentwood, Tennessee

Pivot Point Consulting is a national healthcare IT consulting firm focused on strategic advisory, system planning and implementation, operational efficiency, and M&A/growth, across the provider, payer, and life sciences continuum. The firm's clients include hospitals, health systems, academic institutions, safety net providers/agencies, insurance companies and industry vendors. "Pivot Point Consulting is proud to be considered by Consulting magazine for this unique distinction and recognition of our commitment to the health care industry," says Rachel Marano, Managing Partner. Marano sat down with Consulting to discuss Pivot Point's performance.

Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm's exceptional growth?

Marano: Over the last 12 months, Pivot Point Consulting has made numerous strategic shifts to rapidly advance from its legacy market position to one of a full service advisory and staffing firm. We have expanded our Advisory team—and revenue—by 200 percent. We have also had strong growth in niche markets, including specialty care, pharm tech, wellness, and laboratory and public health. Most importantly, we have continued to hire and retain the best consultants in the industry—and our "Happyology" program and extensive "PPC family tree" provide a solid sense of community within a company.

Consulting: How is this year shaping up for your firm?

Marano: Without question, everyone at Pivot Point is feeling optimistic about the direction of the company. We continue to expand our high-caliber leadership team to further grow our advisory, implementation and staffing across clinical and business systems and services. We are particularly excited about our growth potential in our newer divisions—ERP, EHR support/managed services, and digital transformation/patient experience. We have surpassed our 2018 performance targets and anticipate 2019 will be another strong year.

Consulting: How would you describe your firm's outlook for 2019?

Marano: In addition to growth in our core services, plus our newer ones—ERP, EHR support/managed services, and digital transformation/patient experience—we see opportunities for innovative partnerships with our clients and other service providers, and an emphasis on leveraging data and analytics for leapfrog-improvements in clinical care and business services.

Consulting: What would you say are your firm's biggest challenges?

Marano: In many respects, we feel our biggest challenges are behind us—we have survived, if not thrived, through a merger and we continue to grow and expand when many of our former competitors have struggled to adapt to a changing market. As we look into 2019, our focus will remain on delivering quality services, ensuring our culture fosters consultant happiness and passion about their work, and exceeding our clients' expectations.

Consulting:  What does being named one of Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms mean to your firm, your employees and your clients?

Marano: The honor of being named one of Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms is affirmation we are doing the right thing—focusing on relationships, reliability and results. We are dedicated to serving our clients as their trusted advisor and partner. We are committed to our team to provide them the best work experience.
