Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm's exceptional growth?
Powell: While years of extremely hard work and resolution set the foundation for the growth that KCG is experiencing today, I would credit three key factors to our success: The team's dedication to delivering value in every client interaction; our clients' strong bias to work with a collaborative and results-oriented partner; and, our firm's focus on recruiting and retaining the right talent.
Consulting: How is this year shaping up for your firm?
Powell: 2018 will be one for the books. Not only did the firm receive national recognition for its valuable contributions and strong growth, many team members realized significant professional and personal milestones.
Consulting: How would you describe your firm's outlook for 2019? Where do you see the most opportunities?
Powell: We continue to see strong demand for our strategy and transformation service offerings—both in our business and healthcare practices. To satisfy this demand, we plan to continue adding consultants to the roster and are actively recruiting from top-tier MBA programs for June 2019 hires.
Consulting: What would you say are your firm's biggest challenges in 2019?
Powell: I believe our biggest challenges for 2019 fall into two key areas—developing a network of prospects and clients outside of the Carolinas; and, recruiting and retaining talent in this hyper competitive employment market.
Consulting: What does being named one of Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms mean to your firm, your employees and your clients?
Powell: Internally, all of us at KCG are very proud of the designation and pleased to be listed alongside so many other prestigious, growing firms. The recognition, on a more tactical level, also helps quantify the value of the long hours and hard work each member of the team puts forth throughout the year. Externally, our clients see our hard work on a day-to-day basis and are beneficiaries of our dedication and commitment to value. We believe collaboration leads to more creative ideas and a better end product and have fostered such strong partnerships with our clients that they often think of us as part of their own teams. A win for us is a win for our clients, and they are thrilled that we are receiving outside, third-party recognition.
