11. Emergent Method

Revenue Growth: 370%

HQ: Baton Rouge, La.

Emergent Method is a Louisiana-based management consulting firm known for solving problems and tackling complex issues for organizations in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors across the U.S. Emergent Method's core disciplines are strategic planning, organizational design, strategic communications, training and development, and IT project management. Consulting caught up with Nick Speyrer, President of Emergent Method.

Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm's exceptional growth?

Speyrer: Our firm's growth is driven by two factors: our commitment to client success and to one another. Our clients know that when they hire us, they are bringing on a partner and not just another vendor. We take the time to learn their business, industry, team, and customers to the point where we aren't just reacting to their needs but anticipating them. Nearly all our clients are either direct referrals or repeat work. Our formula for growth and success is simple but effective—we are invested in our clients and their success as if it were our own.

Consulting:  How is this year shaping up for your firm?

Speyrer: This year has been remarkable for many reasons, but one hallmark is a significant expansion of our out-of-state work. While we continue to serve a strong and diverse base of work in Louisiana, where we are based, we are now working on a variety of projects across the country, including Nevada, Texas, and North Carolina. We work with our clients in these markets to set strategic direction and execute large-scale projects that are often multi-year programs or system implementation efforts requiring dedicated staff who support and manage workstreams alongside client project teams.

Consulting: How would you describe your firm's outlook for 2019? Where do you see the most opportunities?

Speyrer: Our outlook for 2019 is strong as we are entering the year with a client base that continues to grow and diversify, as well as with many of the same clients we started with in 2012, one of the primary drivers behind our year-over-year growth. More specifically, given our Louisiana roots and the fact that our home state is a worldwide leader in resilience, coastal planning, and disaster recovery, we hope to leverage our work in these spaces to help other geographic areas and businesses plan for a more resilient future.

Consulting: What would you say are your firm's biggest challenges in 2019?

Speyrer: Our biggest challenge for 2019 involves our internal operations and ensuring that we continue to grow smartly and can adapt to scale up, given the growth of our firm and team. It is critical that we continue to maintain the unique culture we have built and the shared commitment we have to our clients' success.

Consulting:  What does being named one of Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms mean to your firm, your employees and your clients?

Speyrer: We are only successful when our clients are successful, and our hope is that our clients—especially those who trusted in us from the very beginning—will view this award as theirs as much as it is ours, because we could not have reached this point without each of them.
