The firm is known for its ability to quickly build custom applications, create outstanding user experiences, and harness data analytics to inform decision-making, says Eric Middleton, Partner and CEO of 1 Rivet. "We genuinely love helping clients succeed in their journey by applying our experience, knowledge and best talent to solve their challenges," Middleton says. Last year, the firm's 265 percent revenue growth was enough to land it at No. 21. This year, 1 Rivet has more than doubled that number to 570 percent—good enough for the No. 4 overall ranking on this year's Fastest Growing Firms list. Middleton sat down with Consulting to discuss the firm's success.
Consulting: What were the main factors that contributed to your firm's exceptional growth?
Middleton: This is our third year on Fastest Growing Firms list. That sustained growth occurs because we add clients while retaining existing clients—100 percent of our customers continued with us in 2018. New clients hire us because they want a niche player with the same skills and a better price than the big players.
Consulting: How is this year shaping up for your firm?
Middleton: We're seeing big demand for cloud development—Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Companies need help moving applications to the cloud. They also need strategic advice around understanding how development works with tools available in the cloud that aren't available on premise.
Consulting: How would you describe your firm's outlook for 2019? Where do you see the most opportunities?
Middleton: Our Public Works Platform will launch in Africa, helping governments boost revenue collection from value-added goods, imports and exports. We expect to get continued calls for custom applications. Demand for data analytics will be strong as organizations seek to get the right data served up at the right time to the right people.
Consulting: What would you say are your firm's biggest challenges in 2019?
Middleton: Like every other firm in the IT sector, we'll be challenged to find team members with the knowledge and attitude to handle the pace and preparedness we're known for. Fortunately, we have a talent division that sources a pipeline of great candidates for our clients and for our teams.
Consulting: What does being named one of Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms mean to your firm, your employees and your clients?
Middleton: We're honored to be included in this prestigious list and grateful to our employees who see their own journey as part of the clients' journey.
