Carl Carande, Vice Chair, Advisory for KPMG, says the firm's people, collaborative culture, and the breadth of services and industries served make KPMG a great place to work. This year, the firm launched a new program whereby "we are training employees to look around them to see how they can automate the routine processes that are part of their everyday jobs so they can focus on the more important, strategic aspects," he says. "Our mindset is that everyone throughout the organization needs to embrace an innovative approach to everything we do, and we are encouraging and training our professionals to think this way."
Indeed, it's steps like this that have landed the firm as one of the best Firms to Work For for the fourth consecutive year, a fact that makes Carande "incredibly proud." It also highlights what employees already know, that KPMG is an extraordinary firm doing great work and making a tangible difference for clients, employees and in the community. "For more than 120 years, we've been living an amazing story at our firm," Carande says. "This ranges from the talented people who work here to the industry-leading companies and organizations we are proud to call our clients."
KPMG's Advisory practice is recognized as a great place to start and build a career. In fact, KPMG was named the top internship program over firms like Google and Facebook by Way Up, the job platform for college students and recent grads, as part of its 2018 Top 100 Internship Program ranking.
"Those of us who are privileged to work at KPMG know that it is a great place to work; we live it every day," Carande says. "We have advanced technology, interesting and engaging clients and a collaborative work environment that utilizes the latest and greatest technology and tools. We challenge ourselves to stay focused on delivering quality work to our clients, while being true to our core values."
Over the next 12 months, Carande says the top priority will continue to be "our people and our clients, which means continuously challenging ourselves to be innovative and collaborative."
Looking at the marketplace, he sees plenty of opportunities for KPMG's partners and professionals to be innovative, to think fast and be more agile with providing products and services. "We focus on helping our clients leverage technology and other digital tools and processes to transform their businesses to take advantage of the disruption going on all around them," Carande says. "Our clients want to know how we can use technology to help them innovate their businesses, and we are well-positioned to help guide them on how to successfully do that."
How would you describe morale at your firm?
Carande: "We continue to be optimistic about the future of our firm, and we are excited about the growth opportunities in the marketplace. One of the best things about my job is when I travel around the country and meet with our partners and professionals. I get energized by the degree of excitement, passion and commitment to the work we do and to collaborating as a team, and as one firm. We truly have a shared sense of purpose in the work that we do for our clients."
