Doug Hautop /  NTT DATA

Excellence in Client Service

In 2014, Doug Hauptop was identified as one of Consulting's Rising Stars of the Profession. Now, four years later, he finds himself being recognized with yet another Consulting award, this time it's as one of the Top 25 Consultants.

"Professionally, the award provides a moment to pause, reflect and appreciate the accomplishments and successes to date, "he says. "Validation of sorts as to the commitment and sacrifices my family and I have made along the way. To my clients it demonstrates the caliber of talent we bring to bear, while also sharing our culture of recognize and reward."

Finally, to his firm it provides additional strength to the branding and competitive messaging NTT data strives to intensify in the upcoming three years. "We have many deserving award winners lined up and the committed program established to cultivate new, future industry leaders."

Hautop is Vice President and Financial Services Portfolio executive responsible for the global financial services portfolio of accounts as well as P&L accountability for all of the FS consulting practice. He's a fifteen-year consulting industry veteran, having grown his career at Accenture and IBM before coming over in 2012 to Carlisle & Gallagher Consulting Group, which is now NTT DATA Services.

Recently, Hautop spearheaded a strategic movement designed to stabilize and aggressively grow NTT Data's consulting business, and he also helped initiate key strategic alliances for system integration work across the hottest banking spaces.

"Early indications are we have some immediate returns forming around the efforts," he says.

Hautop possesses high entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic in challenging client environments and colleagues say he has a strong executive presence and is recognized for his ability to handle complex scenarios pragmatically, mobilize quickly and efficiently.

"I have been part of or led many significant complex integrations of people, process and technology. The defining events center around two specific client engagements, each for unique reasons," he says. "The first was leading the establishment of a new business spinning out of the efforts of five Fortune 100 companies—all fully vested in the success."  The second, meanwhile, centers around a major wholesale banking transformation completed over a several-year journey, he says.

None of it would've been possible, he says, without a team of loyal folks—at all levels and always evolving—and lots of hard work "My network of talented colleagues spans the globe and I have had the honor of being led by, teaming, or leading so many strong professional and personal heroes over the last 15 years," he says. "If I didn't roll up my sleeves and do daily battle in the foxhole with my teams and clients alike, the credibility to achieve the success levels I strive to build upon would not be earned."

Q&A: What do you enjoy most about your job and the consulting profession?

Hautop: "The thrill of connecting with clients. It is a professional high to go through the cycle of preparing rigorously to best use the clients' time, and then to ultimately collaborate in ways you didn't even anticipate in your simulations. The genuine 'consulting' moments never get old to me. Also, the professional development in hyper-growth mode is what this vocation is all about."
