The 2018 Rising Stars of the Profession: Patrick Hoban

Patrick Hoban is a Director in AlixPartners' Turnaround and Restructuring Services group. A Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor, his experience includes over 20 turnarounds and restructurings. In over a dozen years of consulting, he has advised private equity firms, management teams, and creditor constituencies in a variety of scenarios along the healthy-to-distressed company spectrum.

"As a consultant in the turnaround and restructuring branch of AlixPartners, it is always a tremendous success when I can enter a company in a tough and complex situation and help form and execute solutions that lead to a successful outcome particularly those resulting in a profitable company with achievable business targets and a sustainable job base," he says.

His diverse range of experience includes companies in retail, entertainment, manufacturing, real estate, services, nuclear, and consumer products industries. Hoban's skillset includes developing long-term business plans, liquidity forecasting and reporting, and crisis management.

"One day I could be working on a company that builds nuclear power plants and the next I could be working on a traveling circus enterprise," Hoban says. "The diversity of this job keeps it exciting."

In addition, the work is meaningful and often high-profile and with great people, he says. "I've been lucky enough to work with some tremendous people—including senior managers at AlixPartners who have provided strong mentorship throughout my career, skilled colleagues who help accomplish our goals on the job, and talented management teams at our clients who allow us to help implement change effectively. I've found that people are what this business is really all about."

As far as the award, he says "I know that I owe part of it to a lot of other people—and that I have a long way yet to go my career before I can truly, if ever, be considered a 'star.'
