The 2018 Rising Stars of the Profession: Kelly Nickerson

Kelly Nickerson is a Senior Director in the Global Insurance Services practice within the Forensic & Litigation Consulting segment at FTI Consulting. She has more than 12 years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial reporting and insurance-related matters, and specializes in litigation consulting, forensic accounting, financial investigations, and the application of accounting principles.

"No two days are the same. I am constantly challenged by new prospects, new subject matter, new professionals and the unavoidable new dilemmas," Nickerson says. "Consulting is certainly never boring, and the nature of the work allows consulting professionals to have opportunities for development that you rarely see in other lines of work."

A colleague says Nickerson has the ability to deliver the highest quality work product without losing sight of the end game. Clients trust her as she makes them feel that she is just as invested as they are in the matter.

Ask Nickerson about the keys to her success so far and she says her colleagues. "Success is never achieved in isolation, and much of my success is due, in large part, to the contributions of my colleagues," she says. "Sharing in the success with my colleagues has brought me greater success than I could ever achieve on my own."

More importantly, Nickerson says, everyone has different strengths, and she has learned from the strengths of each of her colleagues, while also learning how to best utilize an individual's strengths to deliver high quality client service. "At the same time, the importance of developing others cannot be understated. It is very easy to become consumed with client work to the detriment of investing time in helping others grow," Nickerson says. "However, when you dedicate time to develop others, there is no greater success than seeing your team succeed."
