One of the main goals of Consulting magazine is to recognize greatness in the profession. Last fall, we launched a brand new award—Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms. The idea was to find a way to recognize the firms that are shaking up the industry from the bottom up.
We knew they were out there and have covered them anecdotally, for years, but we decided it was time to focus squarely on revenue to compile a ranking of Consulting's Fastest Growing Firms.
With a baseline growth rate of 20 percent as qualifying metric, last year 51 consultancies were recognized as the Fastest Growing Firms. This year, applying that same qualifying metric, 61 firms make the final list.
These Fastest Growing Firms are a big deal. For that reason, we've devoted almost this entire November issue to it—compiling a 72-page section to cover it all. These firms are the future, and they deserve to be noticed. For this award recognition, we asked for revenue over a three-year period. To participate, firms needed to have at least $500,000 in revenue by Dec. 31 2012. The No. 1 ranked firm—Bellevue, Wash.-based RedCloud Consulting—grew at an astounding 582 percent. RedCloud edged out this year's No. 2 firm, Durham, N.C.-based CoreCompete, which clocked in at 513 percent growth. The winning firms averaged 158 percent growth. Simply stunning. And in typical Consulting magazine fashion, in year two we upped the ante with a gala—an evening to recognize the extraordinary accomplishments of the profession's Fastest Growing Firms. We wanted to shine a light on the firms, their results and their impact because all too often they fly beneath the radar. And that's just what we did in New York last month.
