We have arrived at our May issue and, believe it or not, it's time again for Consulting magazine to give consultants credit where credit is due.

And believe us, it's due. Typically, we get about 400 or so nominations for our annual Top 25 Consultants award and this year was no different. Having read through each and every one of them, I can say with the utmost confidence that we could publish a Top 100 Consultants issue if we wanted. There's that much excellent work being done in the consulting profession. It's stunning, to be honest.

With only about one in every 16 nominations being selected by the editorial committee, 15 others—often deserving of recognition—are left on the cutting room floor. The advantage for someone like me—who lives and breathes the profession—is seeing the impact individuals are having on clients, the business world, their firms and the profession overall in black and white.

On the other hand, the disadvantage is the facts, stats, deliverables, dollar amounts and client names are completely off the record. Indeed, about a quarter or more of the Top 25 Consultants nominations are coming directly from clients themselves. That's about 100 direct client testimonials of all the great work consultants are doing day in and day out! So, I know plenty about what's going on in the profession… It's just that I can't share it with any of you.

Oh sure, some of the winners end up disclosing a few accomplishments in their interviews, and that's fantastic! But you have no idea how much more I want to share about all the good things consultants are doing for their clients and their firms. I just can't. And it kills me.

So, we do what we can in Consulting magazine to give credit where credit is due. The Top 25 Consultants section comprises a whopping 38 pages of this publication. And it's impressive, for sure. But you'll just have to take our word for it—much more credit is due.
