Recently, John Gerberich, a Senior Management Consultant for IBM, was the project leader for transforming the Human Resources organization for a leading global generics drug manufacturer impacting over 25,000 employees in 33 countries. Benefits of this transformation included establishing one single HR system for the client organization with a global compensation system.
"Consulting has proven to be a very exciting career, it is thrilling to know that I have an opportunity to stretch my skills and take on challenging roles, but there is support when needed," Gerberich says. "Being invited into some of the top companies around the world and being asked to collaborate to solve their issues keeps me excited and motivated."
In addition, he says being in an organization like IBM that allows him to pull together brilliant people from different services lines across the company to solve client problems and implement complex solutions is exciting.
"Being surrounded by world-class leaders who have trusted me to take on progressively challenging roles has been one of the biggest factors in my success," Gerberich says. "I have also had incredible mentors over the years that have walked with me through challenges."
And in the spirit of paying it forward, Gerberich says his proudest moments come when he sees those around him achieve their goals and provide value to their clients.
"This industry can be challenging and being able to guide someone through an arduous client problem and see their work adding value to our clients makes me proud," Gerberich says.
