Excellence in Strategy Consulting
Age: 34

Early in his career, Daniel Hoang had just finished graduate school and started at job at an audit shop. Bright eyed and green, he wanted to make a difference in the world. His supervisor at the time, now a friend, told him that we're all just cogs in a machine.

The machine is vast and simply churns along. Being young, Daniel says he refused to give into the system, and believed that he had the ability to make a difference. Now, more than 10 years later, as a Senior Associate at Point B, "I still believe, and do, make a difference," he says.

Hoang joined Point B in 2012, working on some of the most strategic initiatives for clients and building a community with colleagues to up the firm's visual strategy game.

"As I grow in my consulting career, I see myself transforming from leading from the head to leading from the heart," he says. "The work I do now is to connect a company's strategy to the organization's mission and purpose. When employees see themselves as more than just workers and part of something greater than themselves, amazing things happen."

Born in Indonesia as a refugee from Vietnam, Hoang is the first in his family to graduate from college. "I find that the more I stretch myself outside my comfort zone, particularly in directions unrelated to my profession, the greater value I bring back to my consulting work," Hoang says. "Over the years, I've learned urban farming, built a little free library in my community and raised chickens."

As for the award, it's "confirmation that we can make a positive difference in our profession, and we can inspire others to do the same. The consulting profession wields great outcomes."
