McGladrey
Type of Work: Foundation
Client: The Davis Love Foundation; Birdies Fore Love
Since 2010, McGladrey LLP, in conjunction with the Davis Love Foundation, has raised nearly $2 million for local and national charitable organizations through The McGladrey Classic—an official FedExCup Event of the PGA Tour, played on the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club on St. Simons Island, Ga.
Charitable dollars raised through The McGladrey Classic are distributed by the Davis Love Foundation, which was established in 2005 by professional golfer and Team McGladrey Member Davis Love III and his wife Robin.
The Foundation contributes to the well being and progress of society by supporting both national and community-based programs that focus on children and their families. Its mission is to help build a better future for children who are at risk of poor educational, economic, social and health outcomes.
Last year, seeking increased involvement in stewardship activities, McGladrey's core leadership team made it a priority for the firm to become more involved in the Davis Love Foundation's Birdies Fore Love (BFL) program, which supports children- and family-based charities by allowing participants to pledge by either dollar amounts or per birdie made during the Classic.
Of the $850,000 raised by the tournament in 2013, McGladrey's 80 offices, more than 6,700 employees showed just how passionate and committed McGladrey is about stewardship, community service and golf, by raising $430,000 for 65 charitable organizations through BFL.
"We wanted to go a step further last year to make sure that our employees participated but even at a heightened level through the Birdies Fore Love program," says Andy Bosman, National Marketing and Sales Leader for McGladrey. "It's a great way for all of our employees, in all of our offices to be included in the effort, and selected the local charities they wanted to support."
One McGladrey employee was selected to lead the firm's BFL activities as overall project manager. Each McGladrey office chose a local charity to support and a local BFL office champion to coordinate the giving program and communicate program activities to employees. Donations are awarded for each birdie made by any golfer during the tournament.
"As a firm, we have always had a real passion about stewardship. The employees were able to really connect with the McGladrey Classic and see first-hand how those efforts connected back to their local communities," Bosman says. "It was extremely successful because it also gave us a chance to get our employees excited on the national level."
Year two of BFL is off and running and the tournament will be held later this month. "The enthusiasm and the energy level around this second year of BFL is phenomenal," he says.
"We were amazed by what our employees were able to do last year, and we are definitely looking to grow again this year. So many of our own employees step up and dedicate their time and effort. We're a middle-market focused firm and our clients are in the communities we're serving. We love giving back. It says a lot about what McGladrey is."
