Joseph Kornik When it's your job to provide compelling content of an industry and its people, it can be frustrating when those people are prohibited from talking about themselves, their firm and their work because of non-disclosure agreements. I understand why clients need them, and I understand why firms need to sign them, but still, too many great stories of great work end with the fact that I can't share any of the details publicly.

However, we recognize that some of the most satisfying client work consulting firms are doing these days is for a higher purpose. Each year, firms invest hundreds of millions, and possibly billions, of dollars in time, effort and sweat equity on engagements that serve a social and community cause. Firms partner with nonprofits, government entities, associations and private and public sector companies for the greater good.

Oftentimes, a firm chooses these types of engagements as a way to communicate its values to the community, support an agenda or rally behind a specific cause championed by its employees. And we knew those engagements with non-profits probably wouldn't include NDAs.

So, we asked the profession to share those stories with us. We wanted you to tell us about a specific engagement that highlights your firms' Pro-bono work, philanthropic efforts, community outreach or employee-motivated volunteer project. And boy, did you respond.

We received more than 100 nominations, and the result is a brand new award—Consulting magazine Achievement Awards: Excellence in Social & Community Investment. We think it's time to acknowledge all the profession does to make the planet a better place. We often hear about your firm doing well. Now, we get to hear about them doing good, too.

We highlight the winners, as well as share photos of the inaugural gala awards dinner last month in this issue. Those photos and the firms' stories can be found in a special 25-page section beginning on Page 6.
Give it a read; we promise you'll like what you see.
