2. Point B
Perennial powerhouse Point B always seems to find itself ranked in the Top 5, but this year it takes two giant steps up our Best Firms to Work For ranking from No. 4 last year to No. 2.
The firm recently completed its transition to 100 percent employee-ownership, a move that Chuck Ritter, President, Point B Management Consulting, says confirms what employees have always known about the firm: "Point B has always existed for the benefit of our people, and now that we are 100 percent employee-owned, this is quite literally true," he says. "We completed our transition to employee-ownership in 2014 and, while we've always had an ownership culture, this milestone has both deepened and extended that thinking."
Ritter says that employees are "very proud of the firm they've built," and awards like the Best Firms to Work For provide validation to everyone at Point B. "The Point B family is stronger than ever and excited about our future," Ritter says. "That said, as owners, we know that our success is dependent on creating lasting impact for our clients."
Ritter says the firm "greatly appreciate that clients recognize how Point B is unique, and the honor is something the firm shares with each of them. "We know that, when our people feel taken care of, they pay it forward by going above and beyond for our clients," he says.
And when it comes to client engagement, it would certainly appear that Point B has cracked the code. The firm finished No. 1 overall in the Client Engagement category, and no firm had a higher satisfaction score on the question: How often do you think your work has had a positive impact on clients?
What sets Point B apart, Ritter says, is how teams approach getting things done. "We want to make every interaction with Point B, by every person we come in contact with, a positive and enriching experience," he says. "We are known for putting the needs of others above our own—always. We are known for honesty, diligence and genuinely caring about people."
As for the future, Ritter says he's excited by the opportunities in front of the firm. "Our clients are making investments in growth, and they are becoming ever-more sophisticated in what they are asking from us. We are up to the challenge," he says. "Additionally, we continue to find interesting ways to combine the expertise within our consulting business unit with the investment acumen in our venture investment unit, Point B Capital. Look for Point B to do some interesting things in that realm in the next 18 months."
Why would someone want to join Point B? What's the 'secret-sauce'?
Chuck Ritter, President, says: "That's simple: great people join Point B because of Point B's great people. We have an award-winning culture, an amazing client list, we do exceptional work, and we have great leaders. But in every conversation I have with our people, whether it's their first day or 10th Anniversary, they say they are here because of the people. Point Bers are talented and freely share their knowledge with each other. Our people enjoy the freedom to do what's right and have a shared love for our culture and values. Frankly, there is camaraderie in this: People love to work with people who share their passion. Oh, and by the way, each of our people gets a share of ownership in the firm."
