2. Solstice Mobile
Look out, Solstice Mobile is on the move! Fresh off its incredibly impressive debut at No. 6 on the Best Small Firms to Work For ranking in 2014, the firm has outdone itself again by jumping all the way to No. 2 on this year's ranking.
"We are honored to be listed as one of the Best Small Firms to Work For. It's a validation of our vision and principles and we're thankful to highlight the passion and teamwork that we see on a daily basis," says Britt Johnson, Human Resource Manager at Solstice Mobile. "Every employee has an active role in shaping our culture and defining what it means to work at Solstice."
Johnson says clients select Solstice not just for its expertise, but also for the way it operates as a team to bring positive influence to their organizations. "This award is a testament to our leadership's approach to put people first and continuously evolve with changing needs," she says.
Part of the firm's success, says Megan Gilmore, Marketing Manager at Solstice Mobile, is the firm's unique and dynamic culture where new ideas are always welcome, making it a priority to help employees feel empowered in their daily roles and encourage them to remain active in shaping company initiatives.
"Solstice first and foremost recognizes that our people will always come first. We make a point to invest in our employees by offering continuous training, career, and education opportunities," Gilmore says. "Each and every employee is genuinely excited about the work they are doing, and everybody remains enthusiastic about the future growth of the firm."
It's no surprise then that Client Engagement was one of the four categories—along with Culture, Career Development and Leadership—where Solstice finished among the top six.
"Solstice is inherently focused on being at the forefront of the ongoing digital revolution," says Gilmore. "The world of mobility and contextual computing is evolving daily and the possibilities of emerging technologies are endless. The Internet of Things and Big Data are pushing mobile beyond our phones or tablets and creating full sensor-connected ecosystems. We get excited about how we can leverage these disruptive technologies to transform the way our clients do business—challenging the norm and putting them first in their industry."
But the firm not only challenges the norm externally with clients; it also breaks new ground internally.
For instance, all full-time employees receive a yearly $5,000 self-directed training budget that can be applied towards conferences, trainings, and productivity tools that will increase their abilities in their current position, prepare for future positions, and keep them up-to-date with the newest technologies.
To that end, Solstice recently built a 31,000 square-foot innovation space that brings product teams together in a collaborative space. "With an environment where no ideas are bad ideas, employees feel safe exploring new territory, which generates creativity, and allows employees to feed off each other to create breakthrough products for our clients."
Why would someone want to join Solstice?
Britt Johnson, Human Resource Manager, says: "Our secret sauce is a mixture of our employees, our culture and our flat organizational structure. We work with some of the brightest, most innovative and driven people in the industry. Our employees truly care about one another and they feel a sense of belonging within the Solstice family. Our employees inspire one another each and every day and want their colleagues to be successful."
