9. IBB Consulting Group
IBB Consulting Group, the boutique focused firmly on the convergence happening in the mobile, media and cable industries, returns to our Best Small Firms to Work For list with its highest ever ranking at No. 9.
Dr. Imran Shah, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of IBB Consulting Group, says it's been a banner year for the Philadelphia-based firm, as it played a major role in one of the largest M&A deals in the media and cable industry's history.
"IBB has earned a reputation as a go-to firm for the most significant initiatives that our clients are undertaking, including large M&A deals. The next step for us is to continue to build on this strong foundation while supporting the major projects we're involved in," Shah says.
"We are growing quickly as we greatly expand our work with existing clients, and take on new clients that have been impressed with the strong work we've done."
Over the next 12 months, IBB's focus will be on continuing to hire the best and brightest in the industry. And as it continues to grow, "ensuring that we're maintaining our culture and the high quality of deliverables that our clients have come to expect."
Shah says he is extremely proud that IBB's been able to maintain its internal culture despite ongoing growth. In the early years when the firm was less than ten people, leadership placed great importance on not introducing internal silos, operating with full transparency/honesty/integrity, building a true meritocracy, giving consultants flexibility in how they work and empowering them with an honor system.
The firm was designed to be a fractal organization vs. one defined by top-down hierarchies, long before the theory was popularized, Shah says. "This team holds itself to the highest levels of accountability and brings passion, enthusiasm, strong leadership, a great attitude and respect into work every day," he says. "These attributes are contagious throughout the organization and I believe it is our team's every day experience working for IBB that contributes to us being a Best Small Firm to Work For. And, of course, when people love what they do, it shines through in their work."
It also shines through on the best Small Firms survey. IBB ranked among the top firms in terms of Leadership, Culture and Compensation & Benefits, finishing No. 2 in that category. It also scored high when it came to specific questions around client engagement.
"When it comes to the industry we serve, we have a very quantifiable impact. We are focused on output and it shows in all of our engagements," Shah says. "And we actually get to be the consumers of our own work and enjoy the ultimate output of our efforts. For example, we are transforming entertainment and being big media geeks ourselves, we love to see products that started as an idea in a room come to life."
