13. PwC
Jumping two places over last year to the 13th spot on our Best Firms to Work For list is PwC. With an army of consultants in 157 countries around the world, trust and relationships are critical for its success.
"Ultimately, we recognize our people are at the heart of our success. We aim to inspire our people to grow as individuals, to work flexibly, to build lasting relationships, and to make an impact in a business where people, quality and value mean everything. We know that no two career paths are alike, so we do our best to help our staff design their own journey—both personally and professionally," says Miles Everson, U.S. Advisory Lead for PwC.
PwC understands the importance of career progression, and has recently rolled out its new "PwC Professional," framework, designed to make their consultants into more well-rounded leaders.
"While this benefits PwC, our clients and our stakeholders, these are also skills that our staff will take with them even if they choose to leave the firm," Everson says.
Another cornerstone to the firm's success among employees is communication."At PwC, we regularly solicit feedback from our people year round, and based on that feedback, employee engagement has never been higher. We believe there is always room to grow, but we are proud of our culture and our people consistently tell us that they believe PwC is a great place to build their careers."
The firm has been growing at a healthy clip, recently making some major acquisitions including BGT Partners last year, and completing its acquisition of Strategy& (formerly Booz & Company) in April, bringing the firm's total of cross-industry digital professionals to over 2,000.
"Both combinations—along with other strategic acquisitions and hires over the past few years—have placed PwC in a 'category of one' position as a leading professional services firm," Everson says.
Surely a company of PwC's size in the midst of an acquisition spree wouldn't let its hair down, right? Wrong. From offering a flexible work environment and providing incentives to employees for living healthy lifestyles to shutting down the firm at the end of December to give staff the chance to enjoy the holidays with their loved ones, the firm, Everson says, "continues to invest to keep PwC a 'Best Firm to Work For.'"
That investment seems to be paying off, since 2014 marks the sixth-consecutive year PwC has made the Best Firms list, an acknowledgement Everson calls "an honor."
"This recognition by Consulting magazine affirms our dedicated focus on our people—and that we are continuing to address what aspects our people most value in their PwC careers. Importantly, it also allows our clients to see that we invest in our people and firm in ways that enable us to attract and develop the very people they rely on in pursuing their own objectives."
What words would you use to describe PwC's culture? Why?
Miles Everson, U.S. Advisory Lead, says: "Quality is the foundation of everything we do at PwC. We hold ourselves to the highest professional standards, and take great pride in our longstanding commitment to demonstrate integrity through the actions and the words of our people and the value we deliver to clients each and every day. We believe trust is the foundation of our long lasting client relationships – and our culture inspires it. Our purpose is to build trust in society and solve important problems, and it's a responsibility that we take seriously."
