12. McGladrey
Making its debut this year on our distinguished list of firms is McGladrey, where firm leadership is a big believer that happy consultants lead to happy clients.
"It's crucial for our clients to be served by motivated, well-trained and high-performing individuals who can help address their complex business challenges.
Firm leadership at McGladrey strongly believes that a great talent experience goes hand-in-hand with a great client experience. Recognition such as this confirms we are doing the right things and benefits everyone who works for and with McGladrey," says Gary Sturisky, National Consulting Leader for McGladrey.
McGladrey's strong showing in our survey's Work/Life Balance and Compensation & Benefits categories is probably at least in part owed the firm's dedication to keeping top talent and recruiting and training future leaders, which dovetails nicely with its ambition to become the go-to advisor for the middle market.
"We're creating our own niche in the marketplace with the goal of becoming the first-choice advisor to middle market leaders—the companies that are the growth engine of the U.S. economy. Also, we're innovators in terms of how we take care of our people and how we deliver services to our clients. We don't make decisions based on what other firms are doing, but rather on what's right for our clients and our people. We continue to retool based on that criteria," Sturisky says.
Going forward, Sturisky says the firm is looking to build upon its success and focus in on growing the business. "We've built a strong foundation in consulting that will serve as a catalyst for future growth. Our continuing ability to be nimble, to innovate and build the industry-relevant solutions our clients need to transform their businesses should provide great future opportunity," he says.
When asked what it means for McGladrey to make its first appearance on the Best Firms to Work For list, Sturisky says it was gratifying and highlights the success of their people-centric approach.
"It shows the work we're doing to create a differentiated talent experience here at McGladrey is really resonating with our people. They know we care about them as individuals, and the numbers prove that.
Our attrition is better than industry average and our employee engagement is on the rise. As a result, we achieved double-digit growth in consulting last year, and we anticipate similar results this year."
When you look at the remainder of this year and 2015, what excites you?
Gary Sturisky, National Consulting Leader, says: "The energy and passion of our people is very exciting. People want to work for and with McGladrey. One other important thing is the significant number of promotions we've seen in the last two years—organic promotions to partner and principal and staff promotions. That's exciting! We've built a strong foundation in consulting that will serve as a catalyst for future growth. Our continuing ability to be nimble, to innovate and build the industry-relevant solutions our clients need to transform their businesses should provide great future opportunity. As a firm, we're teaming very effectively, and we still have a huge opportunity to grow by continuing to team across consulting and with our assurance and tax lines of business, as appropriate."
