11. Huron Consulting Group
Chicago-based Huron Consulting Group has climbed two spots to No. 11 on our annual Best Firms to Work For list, and shows signs it can reach even higher down the line, this year nabbing the top spot in our Financial Advisory Services firms category and almost doing the same in Compensation & Benefits.
"I always begin discussions about our culture with collaboration. Whether on client engagements, in our community service work, or on our diversity and inclusion efforts, collaboration helps us more effectively provide value to clients, and is central to our ability to attract and retain the best people," says Jim Roth, Huron's CEO and President.
According to Roth, Morale at the firm is soaring. We can't say we're surprised, as the firm has made significant investments in training and professional development programs, and strives to maintain a work/life balance that supports the careers as well as the lives of its workers. It also offers highly competitive compensation packages, giving Huron the No. 2 spot in the Compensation & Benefits category, second only to BCG, this year's No. 1 Best Firm to Work For.
Roth wouldn't specifically share the firm's "secret sauce," but said it all comes back to fostering a culture of collaboration.
"It hinges on an internal work environment that is fun, rewarding, passionate and collaborative. Most people thrive in a collaborative setting, and our internal culture is extremely attractive for people who want to be in consulting. We work very hard to maintain our unique culture and work environment."
The year to come is set to be a busy one for Huron. It has plans to leverage the experience of its consultants, buoyed by its stellar retention rates, to organically grow its existing capabilities, establish new service lines and even consider new geographies.
"There is tremendous change across the markets we serve, and in my 34 years of consulting I have never seen a more dynamic market place. We are well positioned to grow in each of our businesses, and I look forward to continued growth and financial success while maintaining an internal culture that will provide an opportunity for us to be the best firm to work for yet again in 2015," said Roth.
As for the recognition, Roth says it's a point of tremendous internal pride for the firm.
"People want to be part of a well-respected and vibrant organization. This recognition reinforces that what we are doing to build this company is working well."
Were there any specific programs or initiatives that contributed to Huron being a Best Firm to Work For?
Jim Roth, Huron's CEO and President, says: "Our iMatter teams, also known as employee resource teams, were launched in 2012 and include areas such as Working Parents, LGBT, Cultural Awareness and Veterans. These teams have become a cornerstone of the company. The iMatter teams are formed by employees on a voluntary basis and create a chance for people with common interests to interact with one another across practices and geography, regardless of level. These employee-led teams connect individuals across the company with a focus on common values and interests, and create a greater sense of community within a growing firm. This initiative has also helped to greatly enhance Huron's diversity and inclusion efforts."
