6. CapTech Consulting

Sandy Williamson If the third time is a charm, than CapTech is one charmed consultancy. This year, marks the third year in a row for the Richmond, Va.-based IT firm. Even more impressive, the firm continues to maintain its high rankings—the firm has never been lower than No. 7—despite significant growth. In 2012, its first year as a Best Firm to Work For, the firm was just 335 billable consultants. Today, it's 425—a 27 percent staffing increase in less than two years.

"Our firm continues to grow at a rapid pace as we adjust rapidly to our clients' needs," says Sandy Williamson, CEO and Co-Founder of CapTech. "Our employees like being challenged by the projects our progressive clients entrust us to deliver. Our exciting client relationships and projects help keep morale high."

And morale is high at the 18-year-old firm, as evidenced by CapTech's ability to keep its category scores strong in Culture, Client Engagement and Compensation & Benefits.

"CapTech has a collaborative culture. It starts at the top. We have created a management committee to guide the day-to-day operations," Williamson says. "We are constantly listening to our employees, clients, advisors and partners for better ways to serve our clients. We are in the service business, so we focus on the people and relationship aspects that make a firm successful."
But the real feather in CapTech's cap comes in the area of Career Development, where the firm was the No. 1 overall ranked firm. Williamson says the firm is particularly proud of CapTech's enhanced college recruiting and training program, which he calls "rallying points" for the firm.

CapTech Consulting Headquarters "Line managers and employees are actively engaged in the recruiting process, formal new employee training and ongoing mentoring," he says.

To that end, Williamson says the firm prides itself on its intellectual curiosity—a huge advantage when assisting clients who are dealing with rapidly evolving technologies.

"We're focused on building solutions for our clients that help them solve the increasing challenges that the growth in data and cloud applications creates," he says. "We need to help our clients get a handle on what Big Data means to them and how it will add value."

CapTech's clients will consider developing new architectural roadmaps with some of their applications in the cloud and others managed on premise. "We continue to work with clients who are leaders in their industries' Williamson says. "Technology, data and the cloud are changing at rapid paces. Our consultants have experience in helping clients harness these technologies."

As far as being recognized a Best Firm to Work For, Williamson says that each year, management anxiously looks forward to reviewing the results of the Best Firms to Work For survey. "It helps our employees benchmark how we stand up to the competition for talent."

And at the rate CapTech's growing, that's paramount, he says. The firm recently opened offices in Philadelphia, Charlotte, N.C., and Washington D.C.

What's unique about CapTech?

Sandy Williamson, CEO, Co-Founder, says: "We remain one of the largest private, full service IT management consulting firms that can deliver custom applications in mobility, Big Data, content management and other developing technologies. We develop these solutions with a U.S. based labor force across a wide range of technical platforms."
