7. CapTech
It's two years and counting for CapTech as one of the Best Firms to Work For. Of course, that number pales in comparison to 16 years, which is how many consecutive years the firm has grown, says Sandy Williamson, Founding Principal and CEO of CapTech. That growth was there even through the leaner years of the Great Recession.
"Our continuous growth usually is at the top of the list when we ask our employees what excites them about working at CapTech," Williamson says. "Morale at CapTech is very high. The reasons are many. For the firm to be successful, we need to have great clients who have challenging projects for which they need a partner."
For the past three years, he says, that means Mobile Application Platform development for Fortune 500 companies and new Digital Solutions and Data Analytic systems. "You can see why our employees are excited to be part of this digital revolution," he says. "We are playing significant roles on strategic projects that are making our clients winners, and our employees like that."
They also like several new initiatives the firm has rolled out recently, including a wellness program, the CapTech Women's Leadership Coalition and an enriched Paid Time Off program. The firm also ramped up our college recruiting and training program and unveiled a formal summer internship program with the University of Virginia, which Williamson says will be expanded to other universities next summer.
Another thing the employees like, apparently, is the career development opportunities at the firm, the area of the survey where the firm ranked highest. "CapTech provides an active learning community for its employees," Williamson says. "We also provide access to external training programs and certifications."
Ongoing skills development is a way of life for the CapTech employee, Williamson says, and is a key differentiator for the firm in the marketplace. But learning isn't reserved solely for employees. Over the next 12 months, CapTech will be heavily focused on launching a full service development center in Richmond, Va. "We have been investing in a new facility to support agile development for our clients in all regions and across the country," he says. "Currently 12 clients are taking advantage of this facility and the CapTech Way methodology."
Meanwhile, Williamson says being named as one of Consulting magazine's Best Firms to Work For in 2012 had a tremendous positive impact on the firm. "Making the list for the second time is another nice achievement for the company," he says. "At CapTech, as with any successful consulting firm, client service is only as good as the employees that you recruit, train and develop. We welcome having our performance measured since we believe we are building the best firm in the world."
WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE REMAINDER OF THIS YEAR AND 2014, WHAT EXCITES YOU?
Sandy Williamson, Founding Principal and CEO, says: "For the remainder of 2013, we are excited to once again be ahead of our hiring goals for the year and continuing to see strong demand in all of our markets. Looking ahead, we expect to continue our geographic expansion, and strengthening our presence in emerging technologies, such as mobile development and digital solutions."
