Capco

Marcia Wakeman is a Partner at Capco in the Banking group. So it stands to reason she knows precisely the amount of money she had in her pocket—$90—the day she set out on her own. When asked her about her greatest achievement thus far (and there have been many) Wakeman says she's "pretty blessed to have overcome some interesting challenges from the time I left home with $90 in my pocket to where I am now," she says. "Without a great network and support from friends and family, some hard work and a whole lot of luck it wouldn't have been possible."

And like a lot of consulting careers, Wakeman's started off somewhere else. While working in the banking industry, a former co-worker who had joined another consulting firm told her about an opportunity focusing on eCommerce Solutions. "I told myself I would try it for five years; that was twelve years ago," she says. "I am thankful for the experience I have had in industry and working for vendor product companies as it enables me to relate better to my clients and vendor partners. However, I really have found my sweet spot in consulting."

Prior to joining Capco, Wakeman spent nearly 10 years with BearingPoint. Today, her focus is in sales and service processes and the supporting core applications. She is a business architect who has helped clients design multi-channel, paperless, end-to-end solutions enabling enhanced customer experience, revenue generation and operational efficiencies, leading transformation initiatives for the top 15 financial institutions.

"I am fortunate that I am one of those who can say I truly enjoy my work. I really thrive on solving problems and finding creative solutions for my clients," Wakeman says. "As a consultant, I can think outside the box and am not hindered by typical constraints of internal politics, products, or an attachment to the outcome. I also like to win, whether that is meeting a deadline, budget or strategic objective against all odds. That gives me great satisfaction."

Working at Capco, she says, is another thing that brings her great satisfaction. "The entrepreneurial culture resonates with me providing the freedom to make decisions, build a practice and do what I need to for my clients with little bureaucracy."
