Improving 10 spots on the Best Small Firms to Work For rankings would be welcome news for any firm, but for an analytics firm that specializes in "converting data to dollars," it's even sweeter.

"Being a Best Small Firm to Work is extremely gratifying because it feels like a sign that our efforts are meaningful, recognized, and appreciated by our staff," says Jaime Fitzgerald, Founder & Managing Partner of the New York-based firm. "The award also resonates with our mission to be a 'next generation' consulting firm, in the sense that we do things differently than traditional firms, striving for better results while relaxing certain standards other firms may be more rigid about."

One example of this, he says, is the flexibility Fitzgerald shows employees regarding work location, part-time options, and opportunities to provide services to the non-profit sector. "Uncertainty has definitely increased in recent years," he says. "While this is a challenge, it has also made us stronger, as we have found ways to become more efficient in how we market, sell, and deliver our services."

Fitzgerald says the firm's business model is strategy consulting blended with "next generation" capabilities, such as analytics. "Analytics—and getting as much value as possible from data—is a bigger priority than ever," he says.

"There is a lot of buzz about 'big data' and analytics, but you can't deposit buzz into the bank!"

In addition to the nature of the services, Fitzgerald says clients often notice the firm's values and principles are different in at least two other ways. "We place great emphasis on humility and 'listening posture' with clients," he says. "And, we've made a commitment to helping the social sector get the most impact possible for each previous dollar of funding."
