Admittedly, it's always difficult to describe what truly sets one consulting firm apart from another. But Tim Romberger, Marakon's Managing Director, North America, wants to take a crack at it: "We have a singular focus on helping our clients make the strategic and organizational changes necessary to deliver sustainable, profitable growth," he says.

"We don't compete on the basis of knowing the answer or 'best practice,' but rather on having a better means of helping clients crack the most difficult issues and drive change."

In addition, he says the firm has a joint team delivery approach where client ownership and engagement is paramount. "Our partners work as advisors and catalysts in close, trust-based relationships with top management teams," he says. "Our consultants are able to combine strong analytics and insights with an approach to client relationship
management that is challenging, yet empathetic."

And the firm's culture, he says, is ambitious and oriented towards high performance, but rewarding of those who achieve success through teaming with others, not through head-to-head competition.

"Each member of our team has responsibilities on both content and client management, which enhances both development and their sense of engagement and impact," Romberger says. "High scores in both of these areas together reinforce that we are being successful in what we are trying to achieve with our consulting model."

Add it all up and you have a recipe for success, and one that lands Marakon on our Best Small firms to Work For list for the first time ever. "This is an exciting accolade that internally we have felt for a long time and are very happy to now have recognized externally," Romberger says. "I personally feel very proud of what we have accomplished!"
