Reimagining Japan The Quest for a Future That Works

Edited by Clay Chandler, Heang Chhor and Brian Salsberg
McKinsey & Company, $38.99, 451 pages

With an introduction by Dominic Barton, the Global Managing Director of McKinsey & Company, titled "Why Japan Must be Reimagined," which was written on the heels of the earthquake, tsunami and subsequent nuclear crisis, it's easy to see why this work is a must read. With 80 McKinsey-edited essays in all—some specific to the past, "March 11: Japan's Zero Hours," while others look to the future—"The Next Generation of Leaders," the book is a treasure trove of great ideas, insights and action items from thought leaders as diverse as Bob McDonald, CEO of Procter & Gamble, to baseball's Bobby Valentine, who managed the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan. In all, the essays in Reimagining Japan highlight a Japan shaken to its core, yet saved by its strengths. In the short term, no one doubts that Japan will rebuild. Over the long term, of course, there are still many challenges and opportunities. This book puts them both in proper perspective.
