Excellence in Public Sector
Teresa Bozzelli
Vice President and Managing Director of Sapient Government Services
Sapient
In her first year as head of Sapient Government Services, Teresa Bozzelli recorded three milestones—35 percent revenue growth, increases in headcount and brought in more new clients, such as the national Cathedral and Centers for Disease Control, than in any year in the division's history.
"I had really high goals set for myself in my first year with Sapient," Bozzelli says. "We are passionate about our core values and our commitment to our clients. When we put that power out in the marketplace, that's the type of results we get—35 percent growth."
Now, the question is: What will she do in her second year? "I won't say we could grow another 35 percent, especially with a government that's planning to reduce the amount of government spend," she says. "We will grow in 2011. Will we hit 35 percent? Probably not, but my goal is to grow faster than our competitors."
Bozzelli, who was a former VP at Booz Allen Hamilton, says serving the public sector is in her DNA. "What we do is impacting people day in and day out, and that is very powerful to me," Bozzelli says. "We're solving the government's biggest problems, and we're doing it in a way that focuses on U.S. citizens."
Bozzelli saw the Obama Administration's mantra for leveraging digital channels and transparency as opportunities for Sapient. Her vision is to apply Sapient's strengths in digital technology and marketing to improve the relationship between the government and its citizens. "I believe that technology truly is the element that can connect the government to its citizens in a way that they've never done before," she says. "In fact, didn't we recently see a government change hands largely because of social media?"
Bozzelli's commitment extends to the pro-bono work Sapient does for several charitable organizations. She also chairs the Charity Gala for The Children's Inn at National Institute of Health, which provides housing for the families and the children undergoing experimental treatments of clinical trials. The gala fundraising dinner was held April 2 and raised some $650,000.
"I get goose bumps just thinking about it," she says. "It's been an amazing first year at Sapient, both in terms of our business and in our ability to connect and contribute to the community."
