Karan Baraj, a senior consultant with The Boston Consulting Group, started writing a novel for fun, but the results are serious— Keep Off the Grass , released in June by HarperCollins, is a hit in India, and is being made into a movie. Baraj talked to Consulting about his newfound success.
Consulting: How did you get started writing?
Baraj: It started out as a stress release from work, frankly. The story idea, I was thinking about it for a while and then once I started writing, it started taking on its own life. Quite a bit of it was inspired by my own experiences.
Consulting: How did the firm respond to releasing a book?
Baraj: BCG has been extremely positive. Quite a few of [my coworkers] were aware that I was writing a book.
Consulting: What has been the response to the book?
Baraj: [ Keep Off the Grass ] is a very good success in India; it made to the bestseller list [there] a month after its release. It's being released in the U.S. [this] year. I have been very pleasantly surprised by the success of the book in India. Obviously I
