Another year, another Best Firms to Work For survey and another top spot for Bain & Company. For those still counting, that's six years running that Bain has claimed the No. 1 position in our annual survey. This year, Bain claimed top billing in four of the six categories the survey measures—Career Development, The Job, Work/Life Balance and Culture. Bain finished second in the other two areas measures—Leadership and Compensation and Benefits. So, what's left to say about the firm that has clearly become the profession's gold standard of where to work? Consulting magazine editor-in-chief Joseph Kornik sat down with Steve Ellis, Bain & Company's worldwide managing director, to discuss the award, the secrets to the firm's success and what it all means. For starters, he says the firm and its employees take great pride in the award "because we all feel accountable for making Bain a great place to work. The entire team takes great pride in any recognition that our individual and collective efforts are making a difference."
Consulting: Bain's finished No. 1 in our Best Firms to Work For survey six years running. What's the secret to all of this success? And, how do you guard against complacency?
Ellis: There's no secret to what we do to create a rewarding environment at Bain. The success we've had for the past 35 years is the result of continually refining and adapting the way we work as the needs of our clients and our people evolve. We know that our success relies on a vigilant commitment to ever-increasing improvement.
