There is no end to deals and partnerships among healthcare payers and providers in the US in 2015, and by that I also mean retailers. With another land-grab expansion deal announced, Walgreens Boots Alliance aims to acquire Rite Aid with the more than USD $9 billion in cash they have had just lying around. And is that something payers and providers need to care about? Can I get an Amen?

If the deal gets the green light from regulators, the two largest pharmacy retail chains will gain more influence with drug makers, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) which ultimately effects reimbursement rates on treatments and patient care services. And by that, I mean CVS/Target and Wal-Mart, take note.
