The recent June announcement that CVS has agreed to acquire all of Target's pharmacy operations for $1.9 billion has propelled commentary and speculation about what this move means for other contenders in the pharmacy space, namely Walgreens and Wal-Mart, as the retail pharmacy landscape continues to consolidate. Certainly, for consumers the upside potential from improved bargaining power and pricing from CVS and expanded convenience from even more pharmacy locations is inherent.
