Excellence in Leadership
Gary Sturisky leads McGladrey’s National Consulting practice with over 1,600 partners and employees operating across three service lines—Financial Advisory Services, Risk Advisory Services and Technology & Management Consulting.
He is also member of the firm’s executive leadership team; chairman of the McGladrey Delivery Center, and a member of RSM International’s Global Risk advisory leadership team.
Leveraging his more than 20 years of diverse experience working in over 40 countries on six continents, he has been a major contributor to the firm’s success, specifically after the firm reunited.
“Since the firm was reunited in 2011, we’ve transformed McGladrey into a dynamic, dominant player serving middle market businesses. I’m proud of the part I’ve played in helping McGladrey become recognized as a middle-market consulting powerhouse,” Sturisky says “I’m most proud of our consulting team and the energy and passion with which they serve clients.”
It’s also rewarding, he says, that organizations and prospective employees are seeking out McGladrey. “Organizations want to work with us, and people want to join the McGladrey team,” Sturisky says. “In the last 12 months, we’ve on-boarded approximately 400 people. It’s a great feeling.”
McGladrey is on a great trajectory, he says, and it’s an exciting time to be part of the firm. “We are investing heavily in continuing to grow our consulting capabilities for the mutual benefit of our clients, our people and our firm,” he says. “I am truly fortunate to lead such a dynamic business line within a firm that is focused every day on being the first-choice advisor to middle market leaders.”
To that end, Sturisky says success involves teamwork, “and I’m a member of some great teams here at McGladrey,” he says. “I enjoy helping create an environment that allows our people to have a fulfilling talent experience—one that may set the foundation for a rewarding, long-term career.”
Sturisky is widely recognized for his skills at leading and transforming organizations for ongoing success. “We help our clients be successful―we solve problems and help them grow, and there’s great satisfaction in that,” he says. “And when opportunity has presented itself, I’ve taken risks to seize it, because you never know when opportunity will knock again.”
As far as being recognized as a Top 25 Consultant, Sturisky says “It’s humbling to win,” and he’s accepting it on behalf of the more than 8,000 people who work at McGladrey. “The firm has provided me with great opportunity, and I’ve had tremendous support from leadership and our tax and assurance lines of business. That support has enabled our consulting practice to make a real difference.”
What do you enjoy most about the consulting profession?
“Consulting is a complex business―dynamic, fast-moving, and no day is the same. To bring clients our best, we need to constantly innovate, retool and learn. On a more personal note, the consulting profession has enabled me to develop appreciation for other cultures—I’ve done business in more than 40 countries, and I’ve met outstanding people and developed friendships that extend beyond professional relationships.”
