University of Utah Health Care (UUHC) is the Intermountain West's only academic health care system, which provides care for residents of Utah as well as five surrounding states. UUHC relies on more than 1,100 board-certified physicians who staff four university hospitals, 10 community clinics, and several specialty centers and is consistently ranked among the best hospitals.
The Challenge
University of Utah Health Care had implemented EpicCare in its primary care environment and was in the final stages of its enterprise-wide revenue cycle go-live with Epic's suite of revenue cycle applications, (hospital billing, professional billing, ADT/ registration, and scheduling). UUHC was also implementing a central billing office (CBO) and combined patient bill as part of the initiative. Four thousand users were being trained on the new applications, and 350 people were scheduled to assist with go-live support. In addition to the volume of users going live on the new applications, there were some elements of technical
complexity being uncovered just 90 days from go-live.
The Solution
Aspen Advisors was engaged to assess the readiness for the planned revenue cycle go-live. UUHC needed a credible third-party to provide a candid and impartial assessment of their ability to successfully meet the go-live date, identify specific areas of risk, provide recommendations to mitigate the risk, and render recommendations for a go/no-go decision.
