»5th Annual Women Leaders in Consulting Awards Dinner
The impact of women leaders on the consulting profession is significant and growing ever year. To recognize their achievements, Consulting magazine brought the profession together November 10 at The Plaza Hotel in New York to honor ten Women Leaders in Consulting. Some 125 industry leaders, executives, colleagues, clients, and family members attended our 5th annual Women Leaders in Consulting Awards Gala Dinner. Consulting congratulates all of the winners and is proud to be at the forefront of this important movement.
This Year’s Awards Recipients:
Lifetime Achievement Award
Nancy Killefer Senior Director, McKinsey & Company
Nancy Killefer is a Senior Director in the Washington, D.C. office of McKinsey & Company. Killefer joined McKinsey in 1979 and during her career has focused on strategy, marketing, and organizational effectiveness and efficiency issues with an emphasis on consumer-based and retail industries. Killefer ran the Washington office from 2000 to 2007, and until 2011 led McKinsey’s Public Sector Practice. From 1997 to 2000, she served as Assistant Secretary for Management, CFO and COO at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where she led a major modernization at the Internal Revenue Service, prepared Treasury’s systems for Y2K, and reshaped management processes. After leaving the Department of the Treasury and returning to McKinsey, she served on the IRS Oversight Board, and served as its chairperson from 2002 to 2004. She was one of the Consulting magazine’s Top 25 Consultants in 2001. Killefer received her M.B.A. from the Sloan School of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She holds a B.A. with honors in economics from Vassar College. Prior to business school, Killefer worked as an associate at Charles River Associates, a microeconomics consulting firm.
Leadership Awards
Chell Smith Americas Advisory Markets Leader, Ernst & Young As The Americas Advisory Markets Leader, Chell Smith is helping to usher in a new era of growth and innovation for Ernst & Young. Smith’s focus since re-joining Ernst & Young in July 2008 has been to enable the Americas organization through heightened levels of capability and collaboration. Prior to Ernst & Young, Smith was with the Capgemini organization for 15 years, joining the Chicago office of Arthur Young in 1989. After the 2000 creation of Capgemini/Ernst & Young, Smith held a variety of global postings including head of Technology Services and Managing Director of Global Operations. Her last role with Capgemini was as CEO of the Americas, the largest strategic business unit of the group, where she led a financial turnaround of the operation. Smith was one of the Consulting magazine’s Top 25 Consultants in 2004. Chell attended the University of Minnesota in the school of Management Sciences with a concentration in Management Information Systems.
Julie Coffman Partner, Bain & Company  Julie Coffman is a Partner in Bain & Company’s Chicago office. She joined the firm 20 years ago and is a Leader in both the Global Healthcare and Organization Practices. Coffman’s healthcare experience has been focused on providers, payers, and medical device companies. Her most recent work has included driving organizational transformation for a global medical device and pharmaceutical company, re-designing all aspects of a strategic joint venture for an academic medical center, and developing patient loyalty strategies for a leading Catholic Healthcare system. She also has held several key leadership roles, and was named the chair of Bain’s Global Women’s Leadership Council in July 2009. She is the co-author, with Orit Gadiesh, of a whitepaper entitled: “The great disappearing act: Gender parity up the corporate ladder.” Coffman graduated with honors from Wesleyan University, where she earned her BA in Mathematics/Economics. She also holds an MBA and Masters in Educational Administration, both from Stanford, where she was recognized as an Arjay Miller scholar.
Linda Ferrone Vice President, North Highland  Linda has over 20 years experience working with companies to improve their performance through strategic planning and execution, professional facilitation, organizational change management, and performance management. She is currently a Vice President and the Central Florida Office Leader (Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville) with The North Highland Company, an international consulting company with a consistent track record of achieving excellent results for their clients. Linda is an active leader in the community serving as a Commissioner for the Orlando Utility Commission, Executive Board member for the Orlando Science Center, and National Entrepreneur Center 100 Club, and prior board service to the Mennello Museum of Art, Imagine IT! The Children’s Museum of Atlanta, and the YMCA of Alpharetta. Prior to joining North Highland, Linda held management positions with Ernst & Young, Radiant Systems and The Quaker Oats Company and holds a BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering from The Ohio State University.
Client Service Awards
Marcia Wakeman Partner, Capco  Marcia Wakeman is a Partner at Capco in the Banking group. Her focus is in sales and service processes and the supporting core applications. Marcia has over 18 years of industry and consulting experience. She is a business architect who has helped clients to design multi-channel, paperless, end-to-end solutions enabling enhanced customer experience, revenue generation, and operational efficiencies. Wakeman has led numerous business and technology transformation initiatives for the top 15 financial institutions, including implementing branch transformation, business process management, call center, and e-commerce solutions. Prior to joining Capco, Marcia spent nearly 10 years with BearingPoint. She also held various roles at Pega, Fidelity Information Services, and Citizens Bank.
Leanne Sardiga Transaction Services Leader, Retail and Consumer Sector, PwC Leanne Sardiga is the Transaction Services Leader for PwC’s Retail and Consumer Sector. Her deal experience includes over 200 transactions globally. She has worked on numerous complex acquisitions and divestitures and has helped clients work through issues in commercial, financial, tax, valuation, operations, IT, and HR diligence. With 17 years of deals experience, Sardiga is a recognized leader in this challenging and dynamic environment. She has led over 50 consumer and retail transactions and has assisted clients in executing transactions throughout the U.S. and in Latin America, China, Korea, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, and the United Kingdom. She graduated with highest honors (Bronze Tablet) from the University of Illinois. She received the Elijah Watt Sells Gold Award for the highest score in the United States on the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination. She also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst Designation.
Claudia Saran U.S. Leader, KPMG’s People & Change Practice, KPMG Claudia Saran is a Principal with KPMG’s Advisory Practice and the U.S. National Service Line Leader for People & Change. She also serves on KPMG’s Women’s Advisory Board, and as the People & Change Leader for the Chicago Business Unit. In her 21 years of consulting experience, Saran has led client engagements in the areas of Organizational and Cultural Transformation, Change Management, Organization Design, HR Function Optimization, and Leadership/Talent Management. Prior to her role at KPMG, Saran held leadership positions in the People & Change area at several global management consulting organizations, including: Strategy, Organization, and People in Arthur Andersen’s Business Consulting organization and Strategy, Process, and Transformation at Bearing Point. She earned an MBA at Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management and a BS in Finance at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
Future Leader Awards
Jane Wanklyn Director, A.T. Kearney  Jane Wanklyn is a Director with A.T. Kearney’s Procurement & Analytic Solutions Practice based in Chicago. She has over fifteen years of procurement and consulting experience working with global manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, pharmaceutical, and information technology companies. Wanklyn’s projects to date have resulted in consistent savings through addressing complex supplier relationships and routinely exceed clients’ objectives. She is also a recognized thought leader in her field and has spoken at several industry events as well as recorded a podcast in A.T. Kearney’s “Wave of the Future” series on procurement transformation. Prior to A.T. Kearney, Jane was a consultant with Alliance Management Group and worked at ConAgra foods as a Strategic Sourcing Associate. She has her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Russian from Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas.
Tracey Walker-Sullivan Director, Government Relations, RSM McGladrey  As Director of Government Relations, Tracey Walker-Sullivan brings over 15 years of public sector experience to RSM McGladrey clients. Walker leads RSM McGladrey's government relations efforts for the Public Sector National Practice representing over 7,000 McGladrey employees and over 90 offices nationwide. She has deep expertise in government solutions, public policy and legislative affairs and is the registered corporate representative before state and federal lawmaking officials. She leads relationship-building initiatives within federal agencies, works to understand and anticipate client needs and delivers firm resources, PMO and CSC functions to address public sector client concerns. Walker leads Women's Leadership Initiatives in the Mid-Atlantic and is the Corporate Voices national representative for the firm. She recently won the 2011 McGladrey Leadership Award for Excellence in Unity for leading a winning team in service to the Atlanta Housing Authority.
Deepa Purushothaman Principal, Deloitte Consulting  Deepa Purushothaman is a Principal in Deloitte Consulting LLP’s Telecommunications, Media, and Technology practice. She focuses on mergers & acquisitions and business transformation. Her clients include both domestic carriers and international wireless providers and she has worked with key executives to manage complex integrations and launches across the globe. Within Deloitte, she sits on the CEO’s Advisory Council. As the national leader of Deloitte’s Asian Business Resource Group, Purushothaman oversees strategies that align to Deloitte’s overall diversity goals. She has a Master’s degree in Public Policy with a Concentration in Negotiation Studies and Conflict Resolution from Harvard University; she holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Philosophy from Wellesley College.
